- In collaboration with UNICEF's Office of Innovation, we're kicking off Alpha Round Season, and today we're thrilled to introduce you to the 10 participating grantees!
Meet the grantees and find out how you can support their work:

- Wow.
Thank you @vitalik.lens 🙏
Super honored for the shoutout of our DAO model, our Grants Program, and our Gitcoin Passport product as some of the “applications that are proving themselves already, and are only getting stronger”
(And overall, great read: https://vitalik.eth.limo/general/2022/12/05/excited.html)
Regarding your callout of Gitcoin Passport, we appreciate you noticing the intentionality behind our product design in being a “meta-aggregator” of identity solutions.
With Passport, devs don’t have to rely on just one type of proof of identity/reputation service.
Devs can ask potential users/members to verify that they have whatever combination of identity markers needed (e.g. Proof of Humanity, a set of POAPs, token balances) to be users/members.
We appreciate you recognizing the value we provide to these identity services + users.
We also love the callout that adopting a DAO structure can often be mismatched to goals of the organizers, and yet at the same time, there are instances where a DAO structure can be greatly additive to a mission.
Thank you for naming Gitcoin DAO as one of those examples.
We’re glad you mentioned that our DAO structure affords many benefits, including that it gives users confidence that it will still be around in five years, so that public goods funders can start projects now and hope to be rewarded later.
We want to last + build things that last.
Finally we agree with your call to action to build applications that might seem “stable and boring”—because it is these apps that will be most valuable for the web3 ecosystem and its citizens in the long term.
There’s nothing we’re more excited about building than Gitcoin Grants (and its decentralized future), and Gitcoin Passport.
In the future, it will be obvious that sybil defense + helping people fund their shared needs was one of the least boring things you could work on in web3.

- REMINDER: Our first Alpha Round starts tomorrow! This collaborative pilot round with the UNICEF Office of Innovation is a monumental step in bringing transparent, community-driven grant allocation to the NGO world.
- Web3’s tradition of generous grants programs provides a much-needed bulwark for the open web’s dedicated builders. Grants programs are responsible for keeping the innovative and collaborative spirit of open source alive and kicking.
Given how grants programs come in all shapes and sizes, what are the best practices if you want to launch your own program?
Let's look at what drove three leading programs to major success...
1. The Uniswap Grants Program rewards Uniswap’s thousands of contributors who have been improving the ecosystem since its launch in 2018 and have been building developer tools to help future generations of contributors.
2. The Aave Grants DAO funds grants for code development, governance support, and community engagement within Aave. It exemplifies the power a grants program can have in empowering a community, serving as a critical onboarding tool to grow an ecosystem.
3. And finally there’s the Ethereum Foundation Ecosystem Support Program, which supports the Ethereum ecosystem. Ethereum has always been at the forefront of how web3 orgs should conduct innovation, and this grants program is a major example of that, inspiring orgs to form their grants initiatives.
As grants programs continue to evolve and bolster the redistributive tradition of web3, we’re exploring our own decentralized future. Stay tuned as we transition to a decentralized, scalable solution that will support many more communities in funding their shared needs!
For more on the best practices in successful grants programs throughout web3, read our full blog post below. Be sure to like and share to spread the word among anyone in the space seeking tips for how to develop their own programs!

- Hackathons create a decentralized environment for participants to build a product more significant than themselves. 👷♀️💻🌱
Who participates in hackathons? And why should you get involved?
Quinn F answers those q’s in his latest feature: "The power of participating in hackathons"
Hackathons are not exclusive to developers. They’re also for designers, technological creatives, and product managers. So long as you’re willing to work on a team to help create minimum viable digital products, anyone can take part in a hackathon.
The key to enjoying and succeeding at hackathons is to be a team player and stay focused on the end goal. Challenges like team management, time management, and team building may occur, but participants must stay focused on the project and overcome those obstacles.
Help promote hackathon involvement by sharing Quinn’s blog post with like-minded community members!

- 🌱 More experiments in public goods funding are necessary to find the best approaches.
🤝 That's why we’re so excited to support RetroPGF 2 and Optimism's vision of a sustainable startup funding cycle for public goods!
We’re sharing a first look into the structure of our new grants protocol on the OP Labs dev blog. Keep in mind that all the details included here are not finalized and will likely change as we continue to build.
The protocol is designed around our belief in pluralism: the need to be flexible and allow for a variety of grant program designs to help communities coordinate funding for their shared needs in the way that suits them best.
While the protocol is not yet available for public use, we wanted to provide a sneak peak at the contracts that make up the protocol in the spirit of building in public.

The public figures who stake their identity on being against it have a completely different view of it than the people building in crypto during this bear market.
Detractors see crypto as a threat to everyday citizens and consumers.
But what if crypto is or at least has the potential to be exactly the opposite of what these detractors believe? 🤔
For us, being "pro-crypto" means being pro...
