- A moment with my boys. At my youngest’s school art event:
My oldest wants face painting, so he sits in the chair and the artists asks “what do you want? Tiger? Lion?”
As he flips through the book. He settles on butterfly but the painting person insists “don’t you want something for a boy? A dinosaur?”
My husband steps in “look, my kid is headstrong, if he says butterfly, give him the butterfly”
- It’s International Women’s Day. Hope I don’t see big mushy posts with empty words about how “women are amazing. I want to see people committed to building equitable spaces wherever they go and opting out of spaces that are not.
- What if we focused less on onboarding and more on purpose?
Fans🪭 want few things: music, to love their artist, to find a community, to be seen by their community & artist.

- Do not build in a silo, especially in the music industry. Talk to fans 🪭, talk to artists, talk to managers, talk to folks who are in charge of telling their stories.
- Fans🪭 love sharing their end of year streaming numbers, imagine if they had a way to show their love for just their fave artist? 🤔
- Fans🪭 want to be seen for the love they have for you. They want to relate to who you are, and follow your story.
Think about that next time you want to guard your vulnerability.
- Discovering music on my own has led to the most meaningful songs for me. It's because of the time spent digging and getting to know other fans🪭 in the community & the artist.
The stories of fans🪭 joining your community are also part of your lore. What can be done with them?
- Fans🪭 are free to love you, complete you, and they will resolve their internal conflicts to take in even the messy parts of you. Especially if you're honest and authentic, nothing is more magnetic than that!
- The average user does not want to visit a new site because they have no motivation to.
Fans🪭, on the other hand, have all the motivation to visit once they just need a reason to come back.
Get a website, and make it fun for fans to keep visiting!
- Before the MySpace servers were deleted, traffic to the site spiked on Thurs, because people were looking for throwback pictures to post.
Don’t underestimate your fans’ 🪭need of nostalgia. Playing a throwback or something that connects to you from in the the past is powerful.
- Was crafting a tweet about fans when I checked my DMs and I got the most amazing voice note from @isadorenoir that I am going to play from now on because it filled me with joy!
Get your fans🪭 birthdays and make them feel special like that once and it will last forever!
- Did you know you can ask your fans🪭 for simple info like their birthdays and make them feel special?
Brands do this all the time, but if an artist does it, it could be so much more meaningful!
- Fans🪭 are not keeping track of how many times they stream your songs to gain status in their world.
So why are you?
- Having release day be on Tuesday was so fun for fans 🪭 because it wasn’t about counting streams.
It was about getting homework in the middle of the week to be ready for the weekend to jam with your friends.
- Have you ever asked your fans🪭 why they continue to support you?
Their responses might give you inspiration to continue creating.
If you feel stuck, start with your fans.
- Hearing your song on the radio is cool, but imagine finding a stranger wearing your merch?
Discovering a fan🪭 in the wild is a sign that you’re doing the right thing 😉

The best artists usually are also great fans🪭, because they know what it feels like and build a world they would like to be invited to.

Break free from this, and create something that your fans 🪭 will truly love. Beyond streaming, beyond the formats, beyond the platforms, Fans want YOU!
- There is nothing more valuable to a fan🪭 that their own time and effort.
Artists that appreciate this and want to make every experience a memorable one will live on forever in the 🪭 hearts.
- Don't underestimate how smart your fans🪭 are. They will evangelize and advocate for you even if things are complicated.
Just give them something to stand for, and get them started on the way to connect to you.
- Fans 🪭 are real people, do not forget they connect with you at a human level.
They want to see you succeed, but they also want you to see them. Don't forget to be a real person!
- Music artists are the original community builders. They know that their art is reaching folks at a core level.
