- If you're not familiar with ETH Global, let me explain. It's a world-renowned hackathon that takes place in different parts of the globe, and the most recent edition was held in Tokyo. In my opinion, it's the cream of the crop among all crypto events. With engaging talks, informative sponsor stands, delectable food, and most importantly, access to the industry's top-notch mentors who can help answer your questions, ETH Global is an unparalleled experience.
If you didn't know, you can watch all the content on their YouTube channel, from the workshops to the final pitches, at https://www.youtube.com/@ETHGlobal
But that's not all! You can also check out the projects developed by the participants. I personally had a chance to explore quite a few of them, and here are my top 5 favorites:
5. No Lens No Problem
This is an excellent concept. We're lucky to have access to the Lens Protocol, but there are still many people who don't have a handle, and this dApp allows people who don't have a Lens profile to publish as long as they have a human verification like World ID. It's a great concept, and although I couldn't find the profile nolensnoproblem.lens, so I'm not sure if they were able to finish it. You can check it out here: https://ethglobal.com/showcase/no-lens-no-problem-rsjcq
4. GaaS (Gating-as-a-service) proposes an alternative solution to token gating, which only focuses on token holders and excludes the rest of the market. GaaS allows the creation of access gates based on on-chain activity, such as trading, staking, etc. The tool allows for the creation of access gates for exclusive content or applications for users with certain on-chain activities, such as only allowing access to users who have made a deposit or staking during a certain period of time. Check it out here:
https://ethglobal.com/showcase/gaas-exadm
3. DAOlingo seeks to level the global language education market by creating job opportunities that benefit people from lower-income countries. The application connects users with native speakers willing to practice languages, who set their rates by the second or by block. Students only pay for the actual time they spend talking with the teacher, which gives them flexibility and practicality. https://ethglobal.com/showcase/daolingo-zduk5
2. Catch seeks to improve access to Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) chains by creating a global RPC cache. Its goal is to cache the results of immutable functions that take time to resolve, which saves time, costs, and reduces unnecessary resource consumption. "Catch" works as a proxy for existing RPC nodes, serving cached results when a query has been seen before. Check it out here: https://ethglobal.com/showcase/catch-znfs1
1. ZKVoiceKey Allow users to recover their private keys using only their voice. The system works by registering the user's voice as biometric information on the blockchain in advance, allowing them to recover their private key if it's lost. The registration process is done through a browser and uses Fuzzy Commitment to secure the biometric information. When restoring the private key, the user compares their biometric information with that stored on the blockchain, and a zero-knowledge proof is created and sent to the on-chain contract for verification, allowing the wallet to be tied from the old address to the new one. Check it out here: https://ethglobal.com/showcase/zkvoicekey-zeufj
If you made it this far, thank you for reading until the end! I hope you enjoyed learning about ETH Global and some exciting projects showcased at their most recent hackathon in Tokyo. The event is truly unparalleled, and if you have the opportunity to attend one near you, I highly recommend it. The next one is in Lisbon from May 12-14, and if this post receives enough support, I'll be happy to do the same for the next event. A percentage of the collect goes to @ethglobal.lens .

- Redis tip: never ever use SCAN in high volume production apps, it will EAT your redis for dinner no matter how much you upgrade it. Enough usage of SCAN will send redis in a 20x slow down on responses.

- Something cool that devs are doing with @LensProtocol is using it as an identity system similar to something like Auth0, Okta, or Cognito Instead of building identity infrastructure from scratch, get set up in a few lines of code while inheriting the 100+K beta users of the Lens social graph 🌿
You can either use the GraphQL API, the React Hooks library, or the new widgets library which will get you up and running in as few as ~10 lines of code for Sign In with Lens + Profile view

- People who don’t believe blockchain can go mainstream just go and look at the network box in your house which connects you to the web, 99% of people do not understand how it works. Once upon a time they had to solve that. Complex systems just need the correct abstraction.
- IMO technologies like GPT will have a disproportionate impact on the role of Developer Relations compared to other software engineering jobs.
Some things already seem obsolete, like basic explanations of technologies, and as it becomes easier to fine-tune a model, even more so.
Documentation will be automated, and probably both written and video tutorials and such will also be to some extent.
One thing that may be hard to automate completely - concise and easy to understand guides for new technologies that combine a handful of things together.
For instance combining x,y,z (where z is a completely new API or technology) to create something original and doing so in the most easy to understand way seems like it will probably need some human touch.
Maybe part of DevRel is ultimately just being able to take advantage of these new technologies
Also will be interesting to see how this all affects the social aspect of being in DevRel?
Having deep technical chops will be more important as the aggregation and some of the communication work that today is a lot of DevRel can now easily be automated.
Seems like it will raise the bar on what hiring managers look for in this role if they no longer will rely on DevRel people for doing many of the types of things that in the past would be considered "DevRel"
Just some thoughts but definitely curious to hear what others think.
And of course, to wrap up this thread, I asked ChatGPT what their opinion was on this subject!
