- This is a @lens/punkess appreciation post. She's been here from day one tinkering and experimenting. All collect proceeds go to her and ofc in @lens/pointless.
- Lens has collected $ 500k in revenue in less than a week from profile mints, directly into the protocol treasury. Apps have also earned above $ 100k.
That's a great start for a decentralized social network.
- This is a really great idea - would be great data to have 😁
- Right now with USDC I'm earning 17.72% on Compound and 12.23% on AAVE, so crazy. I've noticed this can be an indicator of people being positive about the markets. Basically during a crypto bull run people think they can borrow that USDC and make more than 17% on it over the course of a year (which is actually not that much annualized compared to the opportunities during these times).
Has anyone looked at lending market metrics like these against what the markets end up doing? I can pull the historical onchain data using The Graph but always down to take a look at anything that exists first
- People don’t understand the big unlock transaction prices going down does. It enables being able to pay for your customer's gas.
This means abstracting all the complex understandings of gas away and being able to offer a system where the user benefits from all the features but uses an app just like they use their bank app today 🔥
- yes pleasee. There's probably pretty cool/interesting ways of setting this up (profit sharing back to some of the most used apps for example?). cc @lens/emmajane1313 who is a genius and has given a lot of thought to things similar to this

- Super impressed by how smooth the experience around minting @lens/lens handles is! It took pretty much a month to go from LIP to real implementation and incredibly smooth experience. I was particularly impressed by the paying by card flow ✨ huge congrats to the team and everyone involved in the effort to go permissionless 🙌
- 1 year from now this is how the majority of us will be interacting on-chain
- no wallets
- no addresses
- no signing
- no gas
- social / ens accounts as identifiers
- mobile first
this codebases leverages account abstraction + social login as a POC https://github.com/dabit3/xp-mobile-account-abstraction
- Really great community call! 🙌
Not sure if the recording is available on @lens/buttrfly or if anyone uploads stuff like this anywhere, but recommend giving it a watch if it is.
I agree with Josh’s perspective and the things he said both on this call and on the discussions on github; spam will always be there, and personally I think we are well positioned to respond well to that kind of activity because of the diversity of platforms that exists, and I feel similarly about the onboarding questions that came up.
From my perspective I also don’t think there’s a better alternative to not opening things up, because as long as there is a strong and engaged community and a lot of diversity across the platforms I think we will be in good shape to respond to spam. So from the perspective of next steps against the alternatives it seems like a great time to do it to me personally.
I also think that with the current ideas going around around having a cost associated with creating an account and giving each popular app a certain free quota like what’s been discussed by both Josh and Stani, personally I think all of that has a pretty good chance of not ending up with a huge amount of spam, and even in those cases I think it is reasonably detectable for the most part, especially as a collaborative community. The idea as I understand it is to have a cost (let's say 5 MATIC - or whatever is comparable to opensea prices) to create a new handle, and then give the different existing Lens apps a bunch of free signup credits they can use as they please.
I'm definitely in favor of opening things up. Personally I see not getting enough traction as a much more concrete and real problem than systems becoming overloaded by all the activity and spam (especially in the approach as I understand it).
And I’m definitely around to be a resource for anyone who needs help getting to the data to execute on whatever ideas around reputation or spam prevention, so definitely feel free to reach out and I’ll do my best to make helpful public tools.
- LIP-5 call about to start, final thoughts on permissionless Lens
- Literally insane that anyone can make a pull request into Hey to make changes/improve the app 🤯 Can't do that on major social apps
- On Friday there will be a Lens community call on LIP-5 to wrap up final discussions around permissionless Lens on @lens/buttrfly spaces https://buttrfly.app/space/xlp-pgtj-dyo
- congratulations to the Farcaster team for their success especially over the past week, it's been awesome to see so many people so excited about using and building in web3 again
I've been confident that web3 social would have the most potential of any use case at the application layer, an entry-point for non crypto-natives to being on chain, and it seems that we're beginning to finally see it break out mainstream as the first big use case that is not purely speculative
regardless of what area of the space you're working, if you're not recognizing, using, and collaborating with people and teams doing cool stuff just because you think they are competing, then you will quickly become irrelevant.
people can easily see through attempts to promote only the things they have investment or ownership in, when you only "pump your bags" we see it. though I see this the most with the VC crowd.
scarcity mentality has no place here imo, if there's one thing I've learned is that this is not a zero sum game, there are infinite opportunities and every improvement in ux, speed, cost, adoption, etc.. is a win for everyone here.
we are not only rebuilding the financial layer of the world, we're building a completely new infrastructure layer that I believe the entire world will be using in one way or another at some point in the (near) future.
we need better apps. we need more experimentation. we need more collaboration. we need faster, cheaper networks
web3 is no longer just on-chain, we're seeing it blend in with AI, gaming, social, serverless, video, file storage, countless other experience that will be imagined over the next few years.
I'm in awe of the number of people I've met over the past 3 years who have gone on to found million dollar companies, Developer DAO members who have found life-changing opportunities, and people who came in junior who are now leaders in their communities
I've never been more fired up to be working in this space, and look forward to building with you all now and in the future
- 👀
- Me and @lens/christina were just diving into some numbers today, not counting hackathons we tracked over 400 apps built on Lens over the past 1.5 years 🤯
I think we're at a pivotal time in this space where the value and opportunities are finally being realized, and the market for web3 social has finally been validated.
I feel like we're going to see a lot more investment pouring into the space now that market validation has been realized.
When Lens is permissionless soon and we've gotten a grasp of quality / filtering of the feed (also soon), this domain will absolutely explode.

- also working on making a daily historical snapshot of the reputation ML model scores so users can track how their reputation trends over time
- Lens Reputation Scores Lookup and Full Data Download
This is a short little demo of how to look up reputation scores on Lens, download the whole dataset, and lookup where a given user lands in terms of the distribution of scores among all users. Live data app available to use here: https://predictcrypto.shinyapps.io/lens_reputation_with_dist/
Lots of much cooler analysis incoming here. The goal being trying to support any data needs as we discuss LIP-5 (https://github.com/lens-protocol/LIPs/pull/29) by @zkjew about opening up Lens to everyone. If you want to contribute at analysis around reputation scores on Lens or need any data in particular to evaluate a spam prevention method, please reach out and I would be happy to help pull any data that's needed 👌
999 edition size available to collect over the next 10 days, with 25% referral percentage. Also 20% going to @lens/sree33 for their work on making their work on making this data available in BigQuery (table name is machine_learning_quality_profiles) 🙏
- tl;dr on permissionless Lens LIP-5 https://github.com/lens-protocol/LIPs/pull/29…
- Lens community strongly supports permissionless
- Small fee on the existing claim flow to mitigate DDoS
- Apps receive credits to on-board users with 0 fees on weekly allowances (managed later by a LIP)
- Each app decides their own claim flow
- Existing main claim flow can sunset to progress decentralization after apps have their own flows
- Spam/bots will be managed on community level
- No geoblocking
- Vibes only
- idea for @lens/orbapp or other communities based front-ends for Lens. You could display the communities to be discovered ordered by the median reputation (for example using the public dataset available in BigQuery thx to @lens/sree33 and team) of the member of each community, this would encourage high quality communities to receive more visibility and simultaneously serve as spam prevention as the protocol gets hopefully opened up to everyone through LIP-5 (https://github.com/lens-protocol/LIPs/pull/29). For @lens/orbapp though it's a bit unfortunate the metamask login is so buggy and QR camera scanner doesn't work on my iphone, anyone else with this issue?
- This is really important to keep your feed clean !
- Can everyone do a favour before we go permissionless. Start now unfollowing users that are spammy, low signal etc that you don't personally like. It would improve your reputation score (which is public on BigQuery, since it was released) and create better baseline for all activity on Lens. 🧹
The reputation score is public so feel free to lean onto it and build new algos, anon.
- LIP-5 created by @lens/zkjew to enable Lens to become permissionless. Discuss if Lens should become open for all. If there is enough support, the core team can implement the update https://github.com/ZKJew/LIPs/blob/patch-1/LIPs/lip-5.md
- Here's another interesting chart relating to The Graph. Over the past year the number of distinct subgraph deployments has grown every quarter, and the proportion of those subgraphs that index Ethereum data has gone down every quarter as other chains go live on the decentralized network. Personally really excited to see The Graph's decentralized network performing well and growing in usage 🔥
- Bello is now open for all!
Excited to announce that @bellosights 🍄 is now open to all.
Bello helps you understand and grow your onchain audience in 3 simple steps.
1. Define your audience
2. Discover insights
3. Engage
Start now with a 7-day free trial.
Step 1:
Start building your first search by visiting https://bello.lol.
Define your audience using 10 million wallet profiles, combining contracts and tokens across different chains to analyze behavior in a unified dashboard.
Step 2:
From there, you’ll uncover the stories behind user interactions with actionable insights spanning over 50 curated metrics and 15 diverse filters to segment wallets.
Apply onchain and offchain criteria to identify a specific group of users.
Step 3:
Engage your audience on Twitter or broadcast messages to wallets at the perfect moment.
Select the users you want to target, draft your message, and fire away.
Messages are delivered via @xmtp_ to mobile apps like @coinbasewallet, @orbapp_, @converseapp_, and others.
Completing these 3 simple steps will unlock answers to questions like:
💡 who are my most affluent users?
💡 what are users' interests?
💡 what are churn and retention rates?
💡 when are users most active onchain?
💡 which communities should we collab with?
and so much more.
We started Bello back in April 2022 at ETH Global with a simple idea to empower a new generation of creators with onchain insights.
Since, we've expanded our reach servicing growth teams from agencies, brands, communities, DApps, and protocols.
Here's what they have to say.
By working with teams at Lens, DApps like SuperRare, communities like Rehash Podcast, and brands like Hume - we learned that different types of users need actionable insights.
Everyone wants to grow, not just creators like we originally thought.
Our mission is to democratize access to onchain data because regardless of your technical abilities, you should be able to leverage the value you create onchain.
That's why we're building the home of actionable insights; to empower growth leaders with tools to succeed in web3.
We're thrilled to drop the beta and open access to Bello for all.
Start a 7-day free trial now by visiting https://bello.lol.
And before you keep scrolling, collect a free commemorative NFT to celebrate Bello opening to all and join our journey of democratizing access to onchain data.

How can we attract (motivate/incentivise) web3 **AND web2 devs** to build crazy apps on @lens/lens ?
Web3 projects and protocols experiment a lot when it comes to user acquisition (odysseys, journeys, xps/points, airdrops, ...) but how does *dev acquisition* look like?
`Is a growing user base (activity) enough to attract devs / teams building on a protocol?`
- It would be nice if the concept of pinned posts existed on Lens. So just optional metadata like having a twitter profile and anything else that points to a publication id that you can update, and that can then be interpreted by different front-ends like @lens/hey correctly. I'd love to pin a post to my profile with the repo where all the data tools I've built live: https://github.com/ries9112/LensDataTools

- There's a new trend happening with social media platforms closing and restricting API and data access.
- Twitter arbitrarily shutting down APIs and jacking up API prices forcing apps to shut down.
- Reddit drastically increasing API prices without notice, apps and companies had to shut down.
- Twitter is now by default closing unauthenticated access.
With these updates you can be charged tens of thousands to millions of dollars for API access.
With machine learning using this public data, more and more apps will be doing this.
The value proposition and narrative of web3 - open data built on public and permissionless infrastructure has ever been more important than it is now.
If you're here, you're early.
