- I have lots of thoughts on this particular topic.
I think part of the reason is an over indexing on building consumer products. We need more infrastructure first. Without that, we're all building and onboarding users without any cohesion and compatibility, or the golden crypto word... composability.
defi got it right from the start. they also benefited from not being a very mainstream product in the first place.
we have this unique opportunity right now to build an alternate music industry that serves creators and artists and it would be a terrible shame to squander that and not coordinate. Despite saying this, there are a lot of efforts behind the scenes to make this a reality, but front loading adoption as the key metric is shortsighted.
Crypto in general was a adopted so easily because it's relatively simple conceptually. Buy/Sell/Hold Token. Something like music can greatly benefit from crypto rails (not just financial), but we're losing users because we won't retain them when there's no real reason to stay beyond speculation.
Of course not everything is that black and white, there are many creating unique experiences using crypto, but we should lean into open shared infrastructure and really show what this can do. That's why I got into all of it and that's what keeps me around.
- got some big news.
we just started a brand new music tech company called Oscillator.
if you could rebuild the music industry today, how would you do it?
-> @lens/oscillatorinc
that's the question behind everything and we hope to help shape this new direction.

This photo is . It is a prompt engineering AI photo of a memory of a visit I made yesterday with the lenses team to an existent bar yokan chan in Tokyo. He has been performing his original songs on karaoke tapes every night for 45 years.

- i got some matic that needs to be deployed.
what should i collect here on lens?
- I wanted to try something new.
This will be my first music release here on lens.
It's an early demo of my song "This Song" which came out in 2017. I probably wrote this on the road around 2015/2016. It has a lot of the final ideas, but totally different type of beat. This is what I showed Rostam, and we built from there.
It's unfinished and unpolished but it's kinda fun to look back at where ideas originated.
1 matic to collect, only open for 24 hours. 25% mirror referral
- the irony of attacking crypto during a banking crisis is practically proving how much of a threat it really is.
- question for those born and raised in the US, do you experience some level of gov corruption/shadiness on a regular basis? if so, are you surprised?
reason I ask is because i was somewhat accustomed to it in portugal and having now experienced some in the US, some of my peers were surprised by it.
I feel like there's perhaps a perception that it doesn't happen as much as other countries.
- I asked chatGPT4 how it could help governments improve the quality of human life and this is what it suggested.
First up was a bullet point list, but then clarified and gave concrete examples.
- i've somehow managed to snag the "@rac" username on almost every platform.
in a weird way, it's almost forced me to be early to platforms and i've always been on the lookout for any new platform with any traction to secure it, which led me to myspace, soundcloud, hypemachine, and ultimately crypto, and now lens.
i sometimes wonder how things would have been if i had chosen a less concise handle.

got any pressing questions? recording? nfts? ai? modular synths?
- hello lens 💜
i’m so thrilled to be here.
i've been involved in this ecosystem since 2017 and despite the ups and downs i'm still so excited and enthusiastic about how this technology can empower artists to break away from the music industrial complex. more importantly, allow creators to connect with audiences in a more meaningful way. it's the best time ever to be an independent artist.
although my main gig has always been music, i've always been a visually oriented person. in fact, in 2002 i almost went to design school instead of music. i often wonder how things would have turned out. i've been lucky enough to work with amazing visual artists over the years to craft album artwork and a cohesive vision, but lately i've been dabbling with creating my own.
which brings me to this image, an abstract architectural space, somewhat liminal but i find it weirdly comforting. it's a free collectible for following me on this journey.
i'll be posting music, art, video and combinations of all three.
a million thanks to the lens team for helping me get the coveted 3 letter handle.
