- Very accurate and still relevant take on federated architectures. Overall federated models create overtime similar dictators over data as centralized platforms, without the scaling or user experience benefits that centralized platforms benefit from. Blockchain factually removes the data ownership issue that centralized or federated models have, but still the missing piece to solve would be privacy https://pseudorandom.resistant.tech/federation-is-the-worst-of-all-worlds.html

- Interesting LIP to migrate LIPs from GitHub to CharmVerse https://github.com/lens-protocol/LIPs/blob/978a2bf068895a3a6d2670712d7baf8d17966c7b/LIPs/lip-14.md
Curious to hear Lens community members take on this one. I do think that long-term GitHub isn't the best place for LIPs since the platform isn't guaranteeing data availablility and also feels very techical for community-based discussions.

- Orb feels super fast now
- Paymasters are quite interesting, basically a dApp can decide in which token a transaction fees could be paid with.
- There are couple of really powerful features on Lens that helps to improve the graph:
1) Not Interested -> Use it when a comment or a post is not something that matches your taste
2) Hide reply -> You can clean the comments on your post by hiding them (will still be in raw metadata given the decentralization but out of sight)
I use them daily and helps a lot to have a better feed over time
- an interesting benefit that Zk-based rollups have over optimistic

- In the light of going permissionless, we added more community gardeners (and kept some Lens team members for now) to the report spam/bots and low quality signals. As usual, the protocol allows anyone to post content and interact with other users. Lens API is used to enable enhanced experience across Lens apps thats using Lens.
Here is the list (if you want to help, feel free to drop your name below in the comments)

These profiles operate with 3 strike system. Report once = 1 week rate limit, report twice = 3 week rate limit, report three times = indefinite rate limit on the API. Kind reminder that rate limit will only reduce reach through Lens API (used by many of the Lens apps) and apps that have their own backend that would reflect the gardener actions. Developers have the opt-in option to use it or not. Reported users data is still retrievable from the protocol level and these users (most likely bots) would be still able to interact with the protocol but friendly apps won't give them reach.
There is no data available for who reported a profile for obvious reasons, however flags can be disputed (dispute system can be created via LIP for example).
This system is a quick win for permissionless and can be improved and governed via LIP as we the community can assess how the system works. Adding and removing names could also be governed via LIP in the future (i.e. removing Lens team members etc). Hopefully gardeners will make Lens a better place upon going permissionless.
Feel free to leave your thoughts below.
- Orb team been heads down shipping 🏗️
- L2 scaling today
- LIP-9 is fascinating discussion around enabling protocol-vide user verification. Left my thoughts around creating global (Lens-wide) and local (App-specific) verification properties.
Global ones aims to use the data across all apps on Lens (i.e. checkmarks/humanity) and local ones would be app-specific (verifying that you are a music creator).

- LIPs (modelled after Aave Improvement Proposals and Ethereum Improvement Proposals) are an amazing community coordination tool for Lens.
LIPs ensure Lens Protocol (and ecosystem around it) is build based on what the users and the community wants. It's a direct community-to-protocol feedback channel.
- ConnectKit 1.7.0 is now available. This update moves the peer dependencies wagmi and viem up to their latest versions (2.x). It has breaking changes developers should be aware of.

- Everyone on Lens before permissionless are going to be known as the OG gardeners. You all contributed into Lens in a very early and exciting time period, supporting community-driven decentralized social
- tl;dr on permissionless Lens LIP-5 https://github.com/lens-protocol/LIPs/pull/29…
- Lens community strongly supports permissionless
- Small fee on the existing claim flow to mitigate DDoS
- Apps receive credits to on-board users with 0 fees on weekly allowances (managed later by a LIP)
- Each app decides their own claim flow
- Existing main claim flow can sunset to progress decentralization after apps have their own flows
- Spam/bots will be managed on community level
- No geoblocking
- Vibes only
- I truly care about decentralization thats why I am building Lens
- Has anyone thought about whats a cost that would mitigate spam?
X cost of spam is in few cents (need email, some bot running or manually spending own time to spam). Blue checkmark spam would be 8 USD per month.
Polygon and L2s have decent amount of spam NFTs, costing also few cents.
What would be a cost that would mitigate spam efficiently?
- So far been very happy at DevConnect
- If you are wondering why some follow NFTs are burned, its because in Lens V2 only profiles follow profiles so wallets can't follow profiles. Side effects, more cleaner integrations, clean wallet (less spam) and less bot activity
