Never forget: the News Feed is a product. Its purpose is to generate more views. Every major platform has copied the format but it's not required nor inevitable. It would be really interesting to see a Lens app built with zero feed, similar to Myspace. Users would see their own profile where they could publish anything. At the top they'd see their top 10 supporters and also could pick up to 10 people they'd like to promote (or whatever numbers make sense). Checking in on users would be thoughtful and purposeful rather than mindless scrolling with happenstance interactions. AI could be used to generate summaries and highlights of what a user has been up to: "Mary launched a new project, Bob published his debut full length album, Jim is raising money for charity, etc" A dedicated small community app, feedless and requiring intent. Could be an interesting experiment 🤔
