Playing scales or phrases on the guitar has an effect similar to meditation in me when I do it repetitively, certain blockages in the form of muscular tensions dissipate gradually and when I finish playing I feel liberated in the present, with a more orderly mind and a calmer heart.
I'm influenced by the fact of separating my body from the screens that sometimes act as postmodern shackles of the mind, taking distance from the imaginary simulacrum and approaching the subtlety of the suprasensible thing in the real.
I believe that there are few activities that can generate this proximity to the divine, even in the artistic field, the visual arts are tied to the symbolic-imaginary at best, to the form, from which they cannot escape. But sound is the primordial substance of the universe and the action of creating musical phrases or repeating them is the closest thing to a divine activity shaping the universe.
This same opening to a subtle beyond has found me on two occasions listening to jazz, first with Blue in green by Miles Davis and years later with Round Midnight by Wes Montgomery, both were stages of my life in which I meditated a lot, so my usual mental chatter had largely ceased and my openness to the present allowed me to perceive and feel an inexplicable spiritual elevation that was not repeated when listening to them again, for this reason and more I'm convinced that music opens portals.
