- “Worth a thousand words”
Can I blossom in the void? Am I making an impact? Will I ever know the extent of the ripples created? Can they hear me, see me? Does any of that matter?
If the process is filled with raw, unfiltered Spirit, and the worlds are being shaped in the shadows. Does anyone ever witnessing the terraforming that occurs even legitimize that documentation process. If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it. Did that tree even fall? Did it make a sound? Did it even exist in the first place? Do I even exist?
I no longer am sure all of my energy and efforts were even real in the first place.
I’m no longer sure if anyone else exists.
What defines existence….
This can’t be be existence.
I never existed.

Ready to exist somewhere I belong and feel safe, love and abundance.

- WORLDBUILDING/BACKSTORY/CONTEXT:
Let's Begin...
Every single word spoken in the "DailyRambles" Series (2015-2022) is 1000% Freestyle. Documenting the present. Improv, in the moment, spontaneous, off the dome freestyle. I have to over explain to ensure it's understood not a single thought or word was written because the term "Freestyle" has changed over the years and doesn't hold the same meaning it once did when I began freestyling late 1994 or keystyling in aol chat rooms in 1995, The term freestyle lost its original meaning and became a loophole for releasing a written track via mixtapes and stuff like that. This series is pure, in the moment freestyle. None of which was ever intended to be heard publicly. My Private creative sandbox / diary to have fun & experiment with being 100% present in the unknown. Due to the lack of pressure often that comes with releasing music into the world. The Peace I had, knowing all of these would never reach human ears other than my own created this perfect utopia of being able to bob and weave in and out of being silly and having fun, flowing from gibberish to super stream of conscious flow state introspective, venting and being completely vulnerable. The Series didn't begin with this intention though. Chapter I (2015-2016) began after purchasing the Tascam DR-05 field recorder with the intention of writing to all the beats I collected from my favorite producers in case I ever decided to write and record a new Dutchmassive album. That intention was swiftly derailed by how much fun I was having being mobile, out in public and finally having the ability to record in real time, over a beat any and everywhere other than stuck in doors. While Chapter I was me freestyling over beats I always intended to write to. The Series took a turn and evolved moving forward beginning with Chapter II (2017). I became really addicted to being creative in the moment and wanted to challenge myself. So I reached out to my favorite producers to send me batches of beats, I would not listen to them at all until they were loaded up into the Tascam. The first time you are hearing the beat, was the first time I was hearing the beat. My thought process at the time was, If the right beat came on that could finally inspire me to sit and write, I would know immediately based on how my voice fit or how moved I was to take it seriously. Blindly Freestyling and adapting to beats in real time meant there were going to be beats I don't like, or I may like but know my voice isn't suited for, so when those would pop up, you could hear me acting more silly, altering my voice to match the beat. To add an extra layer of challenge, 95% of the daily rambles series is recorded outside in public. Parks, Beaches, everywhere. In Chapter I, they were all recorded outside but I tried my hardest to find places no humans were. So most were recorded super late at night walking around. Chapter II, I wasn't in a location where no humans around was as easy so I leaned into. Which is why you can hear my whisper, ramble, while reacting to what's happening in real time. Being at the park, in the zone, when 3 soccer moms pushing strollers pass looking at me like I was crazy haha, Judgmental staring from men in business suits. I used this as therapy to get over my fear of overcrowded surroundings after spending an extended period in magical secluded isolation on a nature preserve in upstate NY. It was fun and healing. By Chapter III, I attempted to record rambles in my house. Something that was harder than it sounds because my house was the corner lot, and a very busy road with heavy traffic and the mic would pick up the cars zooming by. but I attempted it and it was a dope change of pace, being able fully project my voice, being extra silly and at ease enough to be super vulnerable.
You'll notice a theme from Chapter I - V where I subtly speak on my health, and give myself pep talks. I was going through crazy health changes I did not understand and was embarrassed to talk about publicly. By Chapter IV, My health became much more severe, as did my natural self preservation coping mechanism of giving myself pep talks or being sarcastic making light of it all. With fears of 6 figure surgery that had 80+ % chance of permanent facial paralysis, I freestyled my little heart out in access, and even considered possibly making all the freestyles public, just not attached to my name. Thus the alias "The Reluctant Clap" was born. The Reluctant Clap had multiple meanings for me, these private whisper freestyles were my way of expressing during a time where If I sat down and wrote, I would be calling out the insane B.S. happening in the world and in my life in general, but I held back. Also speaks to how so many people are secretly fans of your art, but in the age of algorithms, it's not cool to applaud your inspirations publicly. Towards the end of Chapter IV, My health got way more scary, and my rambles reflected this, by December 2019 my Last contract working at the Harlem Hospital in NY, The Physician I was teaching saw I could barely stand, and asked all my symptoms and told me to go to the ER immediately when I returned to Tampa. I explained I lost health insurance after moving back to Florida, and he taught me a work around. Told me to wait exactly 61 days after receiving my last paycheck, and I would be able to get seen without fear of going into medical debt for the rest of my life. I was 2 weeks away from day 61, went out in public for the last time toward the end of February with my good friend and fellow producer Lofidel, felt hopeful and happy and as soon as he left, I stayed and walked the streets next to the ocean and recorded what would become the last Freestyles before the world would change, A week later, Lockdown. Extreme fear, The Physicians I taught contacted me and told me this is very serious and avoid going anywhere near a hospital until this passes. August 2020. After receiving an eviction notice from my house (my career traveling the states teaching at hospitals was obviously not possible) so with plans to move back up to NY or Los Angeles, I received a call from uncle demanding I move in with 90+ grandmother as she wasn't handling being alone during the pandemic well at all. Which brings us to Chapter V (2020-2022)
https://release.supercollector.xyz/the-reluctant-clap-chapter-v-daily-rambles-dutchmassive
I did everything humanly possible to course correct my health on my own, while being super productive musically, streaming on twitch constantly, learning defi, creating a virtual avatar to stream with that controls Ableton Live since being on camera was not possible in my condition and it was important for me to world build and make the experience unique and special. I pushed through silently pretending, masking pain through productivity until my symptoms reached a level I could not pretend anymore. I lost the ability to sit up in chairs, was rendered to existing sideways on the floor, always in pain, and put that pain into music to heal. I had zero control over my body, and that became impossible to hide so I isolated from every community, left every discord, stopped streaming and began preparing and archiving my entire creative body of work 1995-present to put on USB drives, while learning about global markets and defi and trying to find a way to bring myself back to a baseline normal life, without having to burden anyone with how severe my health is, and it just kept and keeps getting worse. I still manage to make light of it and try to remain positive, but at times you feel reality creep through. I never intended to release these publicly but as health turned much worse, I kinda leaned into doing these publicly, A Few were done live on IG or Twitch, while making the beats live at the same time. But I never intended to release the whole series due to the pride of people not understanding the context around gibberish freestyles or the chance of people thinking they are written thought out songs. Thanks to a little push and perspective from @cxy I was convinced that this series is probably my most important body of work across my 30 year long career and to be brave and courageous. So here I am, Reluctantly oversharing, finally committing. I present to you, "The Reluctant Clap" (DailyRambles)
For further context, If you are interested, nearly all my records on Catalog Works across both artist pages "Dutchyyy" & "Dutchmassive" have extensive backstories detailing events and emotions around songs created throughout my 3 decade creative journey. Scrolling through my I.G. provides further context. I know in the age of short form content, and fragmented social media bursts of communication, the deep dive experience is not something most will do. I won't always be here to add further context so I'm fighting to secure a Legacy I've dedicated my entire life span to. So for those who wish to absorb more context / lore / backstory / world building...

Will serve as your "link in bio" that will navigate you to the places you are interested in most. I'm also an open book, which is a 180 degrees turn from the elusive mystery I tried so hard to retain for decades, leaving only my art to communicate my story in whatever context it was received. Don't Hesitate to reach out with questions.

"If you love something, let it go. If it returns, it's yours; if it doesn't, it wasn't. If you love someone, set them free. If they come back they're yours; if they don't they never were."
Backstory:
Created early 2010, Obviously I was head over heals in love at the time. We dated long distance 2009 - 2011, moved to Los Angeles together and dated on and off until 2014. Long story short, I've been single ever since haha. However, I have a deep and meaningful monogamous relationship with music so I'm pretty content =)

For my first drop on Lens, I wanted to provide something uplifting with optimistic and an organic vibe.
Sentiments across the ecosystem the past few weeks pertaining to sustainability, purpose and overall vibe has seemed pretty low from an observational point of view. A by product of having access to so many rapid thoughts daily. What some might call bear market blues, I'd call proper realignment on expectations and intentions. Many pivoted into releasing / collecting music on-chain due to the marketing of "Financial Freedom For Artists" which sounds like Utopia and I would love to see that happen and who knows, one day that might be a reality. I think the current reality of building micro communities mainly comprised of Artists in new ecosystem that has a very finite amount of Collectors who aren't Artists themselves or builders is going to be a bit turbulent when the entry and end goal is Financial Freedom. The ecosystem is still new and small compared to traditional ecosystems, but new artists enter daily at a pace faster than new collectors do. So building communities and culture with eyes on the prize without being realistic is eventually going to reach the reality check phase.
Everyone is a different stages of their Artistic journeys. Every Artist want's to feel valued and seen regardless what stage of that journey they are on.
I've been releasing music consistently on a large scale for 3 decades. Was reality checked and shafted by Major Labels multiple times since. Been through every shift and medium and never once was knocked off balance in terms of losing any momentum in my love and need to create and express daily. I purposely rebelled against DSP's since 2016 (something in hindsight I regret a bit, since everyone looks to streaming numbers to gauge an artist's worth these days) When I learned about smart contracts, there was no way I was making the same mistake. So in Feb 2021, I released my first MusicNFT on Rarible. Then paused and observed. I really resonated the idea of 1/1's and How Catalog Works viewed Music. So I patiently waited until I was finally onboarded end of March 2022. I utilized Catalog as a Forever Library for my back Catalog of Music. The Idea of being able to tie your backstory, credits or any info to the Music and that Data can never been separated is why I entered into the ecosystem. Financial Freedom never was the motivation, and I never mint a song with expectations of it being collected. The win for me personally, is having my legacy solidified on chain. Provenance. I'm realistic enough know, not everyone will approach releasing Art from purist point of view and It would be beyond amazing if All artists were guaranteed financial freedom from their hard work.
Over the years, I've seen many (more talented than myself) bright lights go dim and disappear because of expectations. The hardest thing to swallow about this scenario is that is robs the future of that artists music reaching the right people and deeply effecting their lives.
I've done my best to lead by example and take a less than popular or lucrative path and just mint music on chain, and let the resonance find its way to it. Repeating all the politicking, Promo and things I've been doing consistently for decades is not something I thought would follow into this new ecosystem. Pivoting into this ecosystem in general came at cost. Alot of respected music peers and fanbase look at web3 as a Scam, fad, or cash grab. Thankfully the beauty of music on chain, is .... everything is on chain. So anyone willing to take the time can see 90% of what I've earned on Catalog/Sound/Zora/Etc.. Never made it to fiat and instead, went directly back into the ecosystem supporting and collecting other artists who's music I resonated with. A Practice I've already being doing for years on Bandcamp.
Everyone has their own path, goals and expectations.
In a ecosystem built on music on chain, my hopes is the music and love for creating, documenting and collecting remains the top focus. Because we are all, together, collectively shaping Culture <3
Sincerely.
Dutch.

- testing new lines
do they show up?
multiple new lines. and some spaces
waaay down here
- I miss expression, nuance and context.
Expansive Dialog, Building rapport, Grace, Compassion & patience. Being Challenged, having disagreements that blossom into growth, understanding and new deeper friendships. I’ve never done well with small talk. So the loss of chronological feeds, dialog in real time, passing thoughts that spark real time conversation and having that organic form of human communication replaced by RNG algorithms, being fed random fragmented, truncated thoughts, days, weeks, months after they have passed has created such an unfulfilling exhange of human connection which we have all witnessed the past decade. We see a Random fragmented thought that doesn’t resonate and instead of even caring to understand context, we often write that “human” off without a second thought under the premise of “protect our peace” For the generation that grew up knowing nothing but exhange of social energy post algorithms, this new form of communication must be normalized and might not even seem tragic. But growing up, pre cellphones, pre smart phones but having access to the internet since it’s inception, it’s so hard to accept this drastic shift of real time, instant expansive dialog, information and inspiration. Sure these moments still exist, but they are so limited compared to the contrast of rage bait, hot takes, arguments that are pushed on our feeds all day, everyday to the point even the most peaceful souls eventually react to some truncated random thought, which snowballs to someone reacting to your reactions and cycle continues and has way more momentum than the conversations that would likely feed the soul. Post Algorithms, I only used social media for output of creativity. Never scrolled timelines. The social exhange would happen organically birthed from some art I posted that turned into receiving a dm, or vice versa. 2020 the world changed, and we were forced to isolate and seek connection via social media at a degree we hadn’t done in excess up that point. Ironically probably the worst time in history to be scrolling timelines. A huge divide that resulted in being over stimulated with so much conflicting opinions with access to tragedy after tragedy, directly fed to collective consciousness all at once through very intentionally tuned algorithms and even though things have calmed down since that time. It feels like that collective trauma we all experienced together never had a chance to heal and we have remained in that very disconnected, reactive mode ever since. Music has always been the healer and a place to escape and express and worth through those emotions in productive manner, but after being exposed to a billion fragmented thoughts all day every day, the last thing I want to do is express my thoughts in song. Like the power of words lost it’s magic. So I shifted to expression through art and telling stories without speaking words. But humans are social creatures and we need a healthy exhange of dialog. Only we have seemed to lose patience for context, nuance and any sort of long form expression. I’d be suprised if any or many even make it this far into this post. But I keep trying and expressing into the void. I’m def not built to sustain in the virtual social spaces if the extent of the population is satiated by a simple “GM” I wish I never experienced such a fruitful extended period of time on the internet so I wouldn’t be reminded how much we lost with introduction of engagement based algorithms, reshaping the way humans connect and value interaction. I know most people definitely wouldn’t rather scroll past a cheerful simple “GM” than reflect on such on heavy topic. But we have limited time on this earth. Gotta leave behind meaningful breadcrumbs. Leave seeds planted. I walk a fine line of over expression and heart on the sleeve vulnerability and never wanting to speak my thoughts online ever again. I feel like little light is being supressed. “I Can’t Say Words”
Love & Light.

-------------------
Backstory:
"Bright green and sticky, Lamb's Bread gives you energy and positive introspection."
I've held off on uploading this record even though it's one of my favorite songs of all time. I've collabed with countless people over the years but 97% of the time, that collab is a producer sending me a drum loop and I end up doing everything else, including most of the time, altering the drum loop and adding more drums, but this collab is the absolute exception.
"Lamb's Bread" was created in KoreaTown (Los Angeles) in October 2013 right around Halloween at Sleepyeyes Apartment. AshTreJinkins and I took the train to Sleepy's crib to chill and when we showed up, Sleepy had a plastic canister of :::air quotes::: "Flowers" called "Lamb's Bread". We lit some Nag Champa then all partook in the ritual of passing the "flowers". You know those magic flowers that enhance taste, sight and sound and boost creativity =)
We then began talking about our favorite artists and albums to sample, So i mentioned an artist I've sampled 390390394 times since the mid 90's [REDACTED] and I proceeded to transfer the full discography to Sleepy's hard drive. What do 3 producers do when they get in a room after passing the creativity flower? Rhetorical question! We opened the DAW (ABLETON LIVE) and I began to show them my insanely quick workflow when it comes to setting up and preparing a sample to turn into an actual instrument through a billion tiny Micro-chops.
This track has 3 change ups. It was the ultimate form of collaboration and something I was not used to.
1st part of the beat was all Dutchyyy. Drums & Sample Chops....
2nd part of the beat was Tre on Bass (except 1 note I shifted), Sleepy on chops and Dutch on Drums.
3rd part of the beat was Tre on Drums, Sleepy on bass and Dutch on the Chops
We all did a little EQ and mixing and the next day Sleepy sent over the track with the added Vocal samples and better master version in general.
I uploaded the track to Soundcloud a little over a week from when we created it and the rest was History.
https://soundcloud.com/dutchmassive/lambs-bread-dutchy-x
The track has about 58k plays on Soundcloud, comments from legends and to this day remains one of the most requested songs to be uploaded to DSPS.
The track also caught the Ear of the well respected & highly elusive "GodsConnect" who's seal of approval was stamped by him creating Visuals around your track (Usually stuff with vocal samples)
You can view his Visual edit here:
https://www.youtube.com/watchv=hylhY2MjuM8&ab_channel=GodsConnect
"Lamb's Bread" was created during a transitional stage in my life, A great shift in energy. I had already begun working on what was supposed to be my next official album "The Uproot" and this was intended to be released on that album. It's one of 4 songs I pulled from "The Uproot" at the very last moment and added to the critically acclaimed, 3 times best selling & sold out Cassette. The infamous 2 hour Tape "Chill Gawd, Chill". This decision was made because "Chill Gawd, Chill" was a vast collection of older songs I created 2012-2013 while living in Los Angeles, but none of those songs except the albums title track were new or sonically represented my current direction of sound at the time. I'm still a bit regretful for pulling these songs from "The Uproot" since it derailed the album for a time and then fate stepped in and destroyed the hard drive where all the master session files so that album still remains officially unreleased except a long form, early demo version which can be heard on bandcamp.
and thus, "Lamb's Bread" was born.
Thank you for taking time to read the back story and thank you for listening.

Track Backstory: Back before the pandemic wiped out my career, my career was traveling state to state working at hospitals teaching physicians and nurses how to chart electronically. I would work a few contracts a year, 30 - 90 days in a row, no days off, which gave me the freedom to come home and have the time and freedom to create with no pressure or distractions. However, I always want to create so always brought my laptop to work. One day in 2018, I was outside of the hospital sitting on a bench during my lunch break, and my co-workers came over and asked what I was doing. I was working on a song from my album, and they said "oh you make beats?, we want to see you make one from scratch" so I asked them to the choose the sample, then created this on laptop speakers in front of six co-workers in 15 minutes. When I got home from the contract, I put more time into the track, adding more swing to hi-hats, some bass, and a few minor mixdown changes. However, I accidently opened up a new session, erasing all the progress I made, so the 15 minute hospital bench version is all that exists..... for now. =)

The pressure placed on Artists to remain visible and produce “content” daily like machine across multiple platforms is at an all time high. If Artists are constantly focused on “showing up” and “showing snippets” I.e. proof of life/work daily, they risk losing the time, space and focused needed to create longform, highly intensionally sequenced albums.
If you’re following me on lens, or see this post via a mirror. I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts about this shift. I love sharing my art/process/thoughts but want to make sure that energy is reaching actual humans before commiting to share more consistently 🫂

- I’ve been asked over the past few months, why, as someone with what seems like unlimited amount of unreleased music ontop of 3 decade back catalog have I not being dropping editions with the same momentum I released 1/1’s.
Why have I never done a spaces or a roll out or do no promotion beyond a public post or two that something is available to collect. Why do I not have a token gated Telegram for all my collectors yet.
I’ve answered these questions privately to everyone who asked. But since they are such common questions. I’m curious.
I’d love to hear your theories to the intensions behind my process. If you already asked and we’re told. Don’t cheat and respond with the answer :) maybe just leave a 🌀if you know.
I’ll explain if enough people care to understand 🫂
Hint. There are available editions on Riff/Beats / Sound / Zora and 1/1’s on Catalog https://linktr.ee/PeacePeaceGawd and this does not factor into my process in case anyone was going to go down that theory.
Look forward to hearing peoples thoughts on this topic. If you have no theories, share/mirror so others can maybe be involved :)

Sincerely.
Dutch.

- Last Official Album I released was 2016. "Traversal"
The Cassette Version dropped 1 year after the digital version was released on Bandcamp and Dsp's.
The Cassette Version was how the album was meant to digested, A Full, Uninterrupted Journey and is not the same as version available on DSP's. There are some songs on this version that aren't on the original and vice versa. The mix, master and album sequence is also different and much more intentional. As is, it exists on Bandcamp as two tracks. Side A and Side B.
https://dutchmassive.bandcamp.com/album/traversal-grand-garden
"Traversal" was the follow up album to the still officially unreleased album "The Uproot". It's a continuation of the story and was originally meant to be released together as Double album. But when I released "Chill Gawd, Chill" in 2015, I made an impulsive last minute decision to pull 4 songs from the "The Uproot" so "Chill Gawd, Chill" would have some current representation of where I was at musically at that time since the 120minute Cassette "Chill Gawd, Chill" was a collection of songs created 2012-2014 while living in Los Angeles.
Pulling those songs from "The Uproot" came with immediate regret since the absence of them made the album feel incomplete for me, So I released the digital version of Traversal first, while finalizing "The Uproot" until tragedy stuck while on was on shift working at the Hospital in Manhattan, My brother (who was in the hotel room next to mine) let my friend and his GF in my room, and they got into a fight and threw the trashcan across the room spilling a full glass of water on Laptop which held all the updated and finalized versions of songs from "The Uproot" and I lost it all. All I was left with was a single file of a demo version I made to listen to hear how the album felt front to back missing the 4 songs I removed from it to put on "Chill Gawd, Chill"
https://dutchmassive.bandcamp.com/album/the-uproot
I got into much further details about this in the descriptions of songs I minted on @catalog.lens if anyone is interested in the deep dive. https://beta.catalog.works/dutchyyy
Since releasing my last official album in 2016, I've made more music than I did collectively 1995-2016.
Between losing my mother in 2016, The Election that year and losing Chronological timelines and Algorithms were tuned up to 10, effectivity killing the direct pipeline of resonance we spend years building and reaching our fanbase across all platforms felt like it was immediately cut off. My excitement and desire to release music officially has basically flatlined. It's gotten much much worse since 2016 across all platforms. We all gain followers rapidly, but in a rng, attention currency, engagement based, kingmaker algorithmic system. Not only sharing Art, but sharing thoughts feels like sharing to private diary.
When I pivoted into web3, I was excited about the model of "set it and forget it" - A direct pipeline, on chain. The Forever Library. A safe haven from Algorithms, politics, networking as a performative strategy and hopefully re-sparking my love for sharing and expressing. 2 years Later, Web3 as a ecosystem not only adapted all the bad traits of the traditional path to success and discovery as an artist, but because the incentive for income is much higher, as people migrated in after seeing how music performed in a bull run with the new selling point and tag line "Financial freedom for Artists" All the systems and stigma's web3 was supposed to replace were just amplified. Once again, Being able to keep your head down and focus on creating and evolving minus distractions means you are at a disadvantage in terms of reach and success. When Artists are required to consistently "Show up" or focus on "building community". The outcome is Art doesn't have a chance to evolve to it's full, profound potential. How could it, when your attention is split in a billion different directions. Sure a lot of good music will be made, and there are also benefits of bouncing creative energy and inspiration off of other likeminded artists, but ultimately the art of true self expression and meaningful story telling can't happen when artists aren't allowed or disincentivized for working hard and being focused on the creative process.
That Direct Pipeline I spoke of does exist now in form of token gated telegrams, discords, etc.. but I observed early that people were already super overwhelmed and overstimulated by trying to exist in hundreds of separated micro communities, as much as I would love a direct pipeline of resonance, I also don't want to add to burn out.
There are many focused on the financial side of the artistic journey, many focused on the hype, many focused on community, features, innovation But very few are fighting for Artists to have the time and space needed to really create timeless and intentional Art. I am very grateful for those few. But when every legacy media company all put demand on being a content machine and showing up daily and punish you reaching your own followers, while actively hiding the ones you chose to follow and force feeding you whatever posts have the most "engagement" It's very disheartening to know we have a chance of building and shaping a different model for Art, but adapt and apply the same practices and pressures we are trying to escape. This isn't a popular topic or one that artists willing to compromise on because the current model of success is being supported and reinforced by nearly everyone by showing Artists, Hype and being visible is more important than the music/art itself and it's reinforced by wallets and who people do and don't publicly engage with.
It's still early enough not to mess this up, but it's gonna take bravery and and collective shift of being selfless. I still have faith, until then, I'll be voidwalking, Evolving Portals and creating like no one is watching.
