Over the past few weeks i've seen some bearish, less than optimistic posting on the bird app surround music on chain, So I wanted to begin my Lens journey with a positive uplifting vibe that will be free to collect. Love, Light and all that Jazz.

For my first drop on Lens, I wanted to provide something uplifting with optimistic and an organic vibe.
Sentiments across the ecosystem the past few weeks pertaining to sustainability, purpose and overall vibe has seemed pretty low from an observational point of view. A by product of having access to so many rapid thoughts daily. What some might call bear market blues, I'd call proper realignment on expectations and intentions. Many pivoted into releasing / collecting music on-chain due to the marketing of "Financial Freedom For Artists" which sounds like Utopia and I would love to see that happen and who knows, one day that might be a reality. I think the current reality of building micro communities mainly comprised of Artists in new ecosystem that has a very finite amount of Collectors who aren't Artists themselves or builders is going to be a bit turbulent when the entry and end goal is Financial Freedom. The ecosystem is still new and small compared to traditional ecosystems, but new artists enter daily at a pace faster than new collectors do. So building communities and culture with eyes on the prize without being realistic is eventually going to reach the reality check phase.
Everyone is a different stages of their Artistic journeys. Every Artist want's to feel valued and seen regardless what stage of that journey they are on.
I've been releasing music consistently on a large scale for 3 decades. Was reality checked and shafted by Major Labels multiple times since. Been through every shift and medium and never once was knocked off balance in terms of losing any momentum in my love and need to create and express daily. I purposely rebelled against DSP's since 2016 (something in hindsight I regret a bit, since everyone looks to streaming numbers to gauge an artist's worth these days) When I learned about smart contracts, there was no way I was making the same mistake. So in Feb 2021, I released my first MusicNFT on Rarible. Then paused and observed. I really resonated the idea of 1/1's and How Catalog Works viewed Music. So I patiently waited until I was finally onboarded end of March 2022. I utilized Catalog as a Forever Library for my back Catalog of Music. The Idea of being able to tie your backstory, credits or any info to the Music and that Data can never been separated is why I entered into the ecosystem. Financial Freedom never was the motivation, and I never mint a song with expectations of it being collected. The win for me personally, is having my legacy solidified on chain. Provenance. I'm realistic enough know, not everyone will approach releasing Art from purist point of view and It would be beyond amazing if All artists were guaranteed financial freedom from their hard work.
Over the years, I've seen many (more talented than myself) bright lights go dim and disappear because of expectations. The hardest thing to swallow about this scenario is that is robs the future of that artists music reaching the right people and deeply effecting their lives.
I've done my best to lead by example and take a less than popular or lucrative path and just mint music on chain, and let the resonance find its way to it. Repeating all the politicking, Promo and things I've been doing consistently for decades is not something I thought would follow into this new ecosystem. Pivoting into this ecosystem in general came at cost. Alot of respected music peers and fanbase look at web3 as a Scam, fad, or cash grab. Thankfully the beauty of music on chain, is .... everything is on chain. So anyone willing to take the time can see 90% of what I've earned on Catalog/Sound/Zora/Etc.. Never made it to fiat and instead, went directly back into the ecosystem supporting and collecting other artists who's music I resonated with. A Practice I've already being doing for years on Bandcamp.
Everyone has their own path, goals and expectations.
In a ecosystem built on music on chain, my hopes is the music and love for creating, documenting and collecting remains the top focus. Because we are all, together, collectively shaping Culture <3
Sincerely.
Dutch.

I wanted to take time to introduce myself, but not from the very beginning. For those backstories you can head to @catalogworks.lens and search for the Artists "Dutchyyy" & "Dutchyyy"
I wanted to begin from the life changing Arc that explains more about present Dutch. It's a lengthy, but one of the advantages of having a save haven / Alternative to twitter is being able to move away from character limits that make everything sound like like a bold a statement and rather provide more context and humanity into on discourse =)
So if you have a few moments.
**Backstory of A Beat Hoarder.**
In August 2016 while living in Los Angles, My Mother passed away very unexpectedly and suddenly. My family downplayed it so I wouldn't know how serious it was because I just Started a Job Working Netflix and they knew how proud my mother was and didn't want me to lose focus. They down played it until it couldn't be downplayed any longer. I was at work when I received a call from Tampa number I didn't recognize. It was the Hospital asking my permission to take my mother off life support. As you can imagine, I wasn't able to properly process this information in the moment. Since my family told me she was fine. I couldn't speak. I couldn't give them an answer. I had just finished my 60 day unpaid probational period, and it was 2nd day working a paid job (100 per hr) I let my boss know what was happening and asked if I could take a lunch to call my family, who apologized for downplaying her situation and begged me to give they Hospital my consent. I refused. I asked if I could speak to her, and they told me I could speak to her, and she might be able to hear me, but wouldn't be able to respond as she wasn't conscious. Everyone was crying so I began crying. I didn't know what to say. [There is more context to this particular event in the description of the EP I released Dedicated to my mother https://dutchmassive.bandcamp.com/album/mother-nocturnalis-ep ] I couldn't give them blessing or think strait while at work so I let my boss know what was happening and took an uber back to the Motel I was living in in DTLA. The next morning I received an Email from work saying DO NOT COME INTO WORK BEFORE CALLING. So I called and they asked me if I Took a photo at work and posted it on twitter. I told them, yes... but I literally just took a picture of the TV with the NETFLIX LOGO and the tweet verbatim said "Thank You Universe For Second Chances, I am Eternally Grateful" (for context, I did the same type of work for Warner Brothers 2012-2014 until they laid off 70% of their work force) I didn't mention working for Netflix, or anything. They said, "we are so sorry Dutch, especially with what is happening with your mother and we are deeply saddened because you came to us at the highest recommendation and beyond proved your worth the past two months, but there is a ZERO tolerance policy for taking photo's inside the building and the decision to let you go came from very high up" [For context, Netflix has an algo that scrolls social media for their logo, and geolocated the image to my location] I hung up the phone dead inside, I didn't know how to tell my family. 1 Hr later, I got a call from my brother crying saying my mother passed an HR ago, and I need to come to help with family. The next day I was on a flight back to Tampa, FL (The place i've tried to escape many times) While the loss of my Career was a blow, It didn't effect me too bad as my brother and I had been Consulting on and off since 2009, flying state to state working at hospitals teaching physicans and nurses how to chart electronically. December 2016, I released my last official full album on Cassette **"Traversal"** https://dutchmassive.bandcamp.com/album/traversal-grand-garden which was created to help inspire my mother. but she never got to hear it. "Traversal" was meant to be the follow up to **"The Uproot"** https://dutchmassive.bandcamp.com/album/the-uproot but do to hard drive loss, I lost all the original sessions and only had a demo version left) A few months later, after a lifetime of living in apartments, I rented my first house... This is around the time Algorithms on social media were turned up to 100 and all the fans and supporters I was used to reaching by simply posting a link, felt impossible to reach. While working NYC at the Hospital, My friend and his girlfriend were let into my hotel room while i was at work, and they got into a fight his girlfriend spilled water and killed my laptop. After posting about this on facebook, one of friends and long time fans Anthony reached and said he buy me a new laptop. And sent me the one I still use to this today. I began Working on my next album titled "Maybury" (which was the street name my house was on) The Video I attached to this post was the first beat I made on it, I made it at 4am, at the beach, alone under a fool moon. I Then Began working on another album "Nature Boy Kick Snare" and another album titled "PvP" but the loss off a direct pipeline to my audience across all social media combined with the loss of my mother and never having proper closure made finalizing anything nearly impossible. The Thought of putting into months and years of love and energy into cohesively releasing albums that felt like they would no longer reach my audience didn't Discourage me from creating, Only from officially releasing albums. At the same time, I boycotting DSP's (something I regret in retrospect since everyone looks to streaming numbers as a gauge of success, and I purposely kept all my music exclusive to bandcamp and physical releases). I've been creating music since 1995 consistently and releasing officially since my first vinyl in 1997, but from 2017-present, I've made more music than I did all previous years combined, I just changed my approach to my creative process. Leaned heavily into capturing the entire process from start to finish, mistakes and all **#EvolvingPortals** , Live Streaming, Daily Freestyles (**DailyRambles/The Reluctant Clap**) & One take improv jazz piano sessions (**LongStoryShort**).... To this day, The song in this snippet was never officially released.
There's a lot of life that happens between songs and social so there is so much context, backstory and history I didn't provide. My health has been rapidly declining since 2017, and accelerated greatly mid 2021. Knowing this is why I pivoted to Music on Chain, The Ability to attach context and backstories with music that can't ever be separated. Most importantly. Since December 2021, I've been working on the master the vault of my Legacy. A USB being shipped to everyone who ordered the 3rd and final pressing of the 2 hr Cassette **"Chill Gawd, Chill"** ( https://dutchmassive.bandcamp.com/album/chill-gawd-chill ) Nearly everything I've ever done, released and unreleased in Chronological order. I've put all my energy into this the past few years while also honoring creating new music in moment. Thanks to @cxylee.lens who shipped me a proper Tape Deck since my walkman was eating up my tapes, I was able to digitize my first pieces of music, before any official Dutchmassive or Dutchyyy, My first beat tape from 1995 made on a Casio KeyBoard, my 2nd Beat Tape made in program called Mod-Edit that only worked in Ms-DOS in 1997/98 and 3rd Beat Tape made in December 1999 when my best friend rented me an MPC2000 for 30 for Xmas....
**In Closing....**
Why did I take time to write all of this out?
Because context is important and rare these days... People only see microfragments of communications on websites that incentivize reactionary statements, which without context or history are easy to misunderstand or internalize...
Hoarding Music for me came with purpose and intention. I just wanted to give a little insight into that before I release any music on @lensprotocol which will be happening soon via @beatsapp.lens
There isn't a day that passes where I don't want to deactivate twitter, I'm force fed a billion fragmented thoughts a day, gain followers non-stop but feel like I'm posting into a void.
My hopes is that Lens is a place where sharing and reading the timeline will once again be an inspiring experience.
If you've read this far, Thank you. I know time is a limited, precious resource and we have all been conditioned with adhd haha.
