- What makes Lens truly amazing is the community. I've met so many builders, creators, users, and supporters during the Lens journey, and one common DNA is that everyone wants to see onchain social adoption and are supporting each other with guidance, discussions and collects. Truly blessed for what we have.

- Web3 marketing? More than POAPs, NFTs, giveaways, we need immersive experiences, real connections, and community engagement for project growth.

- I will say it again ABSTRACTION IS EVERYTHING.
👉 the internet - a network box in your house that nobody understands. People enter the extended code to connect, which is seen as normal.
👉 mobile device - a handheld device you can call the other side of the world with, video for hours on an incredible camera, FaceTime anyone instantly.
👉a plane - a floating box which takes you from A > to B flying in the sky 🤯accessible by anyone.
👉TV - watch anything you want, staring at a big screen, live football, movies, anything with a click of the remote.
My point here is that the most complicated things in the world and the most advanced things are abstracted so well away from the end user that they see it as usual and straightforward.
If planes, mobiles, TVs, and the internet can all exist for anyone, then history has already proved that anything is possible for mainstream if abstracted away well enough.

Gm 🖌 Today we're looking at another important moment in art history, one that feels very much aligned with the current disruptions happening in the creator economy, DeFi, and technology. We’ll also be presenting our own take very 🔜
**A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE SALON DES REFUSES** 🖼
Artists and creatives have faced rejection throughout history. But in 1863, when more than half of the paintings submitted to the official Paris Salon were rejected by the jury, these same artists took to the streets. Their protests would not only grant them their own exhibition but also mark a major turning point in contemporary art history.
Napoleon III (the last monarch to rule over France) granted the refused artists their own show "*Salon des Refusés,"* which translates to the *“Exhibition of the Rejected.*" The show opened shortly after the official Salon as a way to let the public decide the quality of the rejected artistic works.
While the show was met with many negative critiques, thousands of visitors attended the exhibition each day. On display were artistic works from painters who are well-known today, including Cézanne, Pissaro, and Manet.
*Salon des Refusés* helped usher in an era of individual experimentation in art, and the concept of "learning the rules" in order to break them. The event also empowered younger artists to set up their own exhibitions and freely showcase their unique artistic expressions. Flash forward to 2022 and the Salon has inspired similar exhibitions all over the world and is a standing tradition at many art schools.
So what does this have to do with decentralisation and web3? There are many elements of our lives that are "controlled" by central powers that set the rules. The future many of us aim to build directly confronts this notion. Instead, we want self-custody and collective ownership. We strive for a diversity of voices, ideas, experiences, storage solutions... financial systems.
Before the *Salon des Refusés* an artist's career relied heavily on acceptance into the official Salon. Afterward, many artists realised their collective power to make change. In many ways, we are all part of a new age *Salon des Refusés* stretching far beyond art and made possible by new technologies.

Super short description:
Decentralized social network rebellion in a dystopian world
Description:
The story takes place in a world where centralized social networks are the only means of communication and connection for people. These networks are owned and controlled by a small group of powerful billionaires, who use their influence to stifle the free speech of the masses.
The people of this world are constantly monitored and censored by the algorithms and moderation teams of these social networks, and any dissent or criticism of the ruling elites is swiftly suppressed. Those who speak out against the status quo are often ostracized, demonized, or even banned from the networks entirely.
Despite this oppressive atmosphere, there are still those who resist and fight for the right to free expression. They use secret codes, encrypted messaging, and underground networks to communicate and organize, risking their own safety to stand up for what they believe in.
As the billionaires continue to consolidate their power and control over the thoughts and beliefs of the people, a rebellion begins to brew. The people are fed up with being silenced and controlled, and they are willing to risk everything to take back their power and reclaim their freedom of speech.

This week’s guest writer is The Gallery DAO @thegalleryDAO.lens from https://www.thegallerydao.io/
**Q: Tell us about yourself**
We’re a digi/physi global gallery creating disruptive XR experiences.
Part creative studio part social DAO.
**Q: Tell us about your project(s) and what is your mission?**
At Devcon Bogotá we partnered with Lens and Selas studio on a web3 AI tool
featuring local Colombian artists. If you have a .lens handle you can try it out!
We aim to blueprint opportunities for creators to achieve sovereignty and to champion diverse voices. Experiential minting, immersive events, and creator education & development are our main focus areas.
**Q: What excites you about Web3?**
Collaboration and coordination amongst awesome minds people from around the world.
Also the ability for sovereignty for creators and creatives. This foundation will likely result in truly innovative artistic works.
**Q: What tips do you have for aspiring creators in the space?**
It’s early so also try to build something you think could be useful for others like you. The ability for creators to be involved in infrastructure building is a positive byproduct of web2 (access).
**Q: What’s next for you?**
We are planning a large-scale immersive around NFT Paris. A twist on Salon des Refusés, a 19th century art movement. Also thinking about themes for our creative hackathon series Metaversité. The current stand out - how can fashion and music tell collaborative stories in Web3. Follow the journey on Lens and Twitter @thegallerydao
