- A Magellanic penguin (Spheniscus magellanicus) carrying nest material. The mouth functions as its hand on the ground because the flippers are only adapted to swimming and not carrying 😀

The Magellanic penguin was named after Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan, who spotted the birds in 1520 in Patagonia region of South America. They are medium-sized, temperate water, migratory penguins. In the austral summer they are found in large and small land-based breeding colonies. In the winter season they are at sea foraging, often following schools of their preferred food, anchovy.
