WHAT'S THIS? Brought to my attention by Erwin Voloder, MES, this new report from the Proof of Stake Alliance (POSA) is a summary of their analysis of the behavior of the so-called "Liquid Staking Receipt Tokens", more commonly known as LSDs (Liquid Staking Derivatives), in light of the US laws for commodities and securities.
WHY SHOULD I CARE? Because one of the biggest criticisms of #ProofOfStake #Blockchains is that the business architecture of POS resembles the behavior of a security under the #HoweyTest.
WHAT DOES IT COVER? The paper defines what is POS, how various POS blockchains work, how staking works in different blockchains, and how various Liquid Staking services operate. It concludes considering that LSDs are neither securities nor commodities, but are akin to warehouse receipts.
WHY DOES IT MATTER? Because they have been called "derivatives" for so long, this concept will likely be hard to flip in the eyes of more conservative regulators. For more progressive jurisdictions, this is the perfect material to initiate a broader dialogue with the industry before applying old frameworks and rushing to conclusions.

In a very summarized way, this is how the #AccountAbstraction will work:
⛓ Ethereum works with the concept of accounts, that can be a user account or a smart contract account
🔄 These accounts interact on the basis of transactions, that need to be signed and paid for by a user account
🔢 Because the way user accounts work, they depend on complex things to manage, such as private keys and seed phrases, making it a real UX nightmare, and make it a risky business
📁 With account abstraction it is now possible to allow user accounts to be operated by a smart contract, which will "abstract" the hard stuff users currently need to do, replacing it by a much more friendly UX.
Here are some use cases that are now possible:
💡 Bundle transactions for simplified command/clicks
💡 Recover accounts that were lost
💡 Control the limits and types of transactions a wallet can sign
💡 Sponsor someone's transaction cost
💡 Offer "human" language to present blockchain information
💡 Multi-sig for specific types of transactions
💡 Whatever devs can create to improve UX and make it increasingly more secure
🚗 While the UX game has ways to go, it is refreshing to see the ecosystem move toward enabling that.
