- **✨ World Music #6 – Every week, I select a different country from around the globe, featuring an artist + track that I love ✨** Next up: 🇸🇴 SOMALIA 🇸🇴 This is the cosmic Afrobeat of Dur Dur Band + Sahra Dawo's 'Golof (Elixir)' https://ostinatorecords.bandcamp.com/track/gorof-elixir
Ostinato Records is a label dedicated to shining a light on music from the Horn of Africa. While all of its releases sparkle, the compilation Sweet As Broken Dates is one of the imprint's distinct gems.
Comprised of 15-tracks of music from Somalia during the '70s and '80s, these recordings were nearly lost forever amidst ongoing political unrest, including the 1988 air strikes on the country. However, employees at Radio Hargeisa, realising over 50 years of Somali music were in danger, put their lives at risk to remove thousands of tapes from the buildings.
They then dispersed the cassettes to neighbouring countries Djibouti and Ethiopia, and hid them out of harm’s way in Somalia. “We buried them in the ground, so the bombs won’t hit” explained a former Radio Hargeisa journalist.
Because of a decades-long civil war overtook Somalia in the ’80s, the vibrant cultural period in the country’s history was overshadowed by violence, and the lost tapes were nearly forgotten about.
Today, Red Sea Foundation has recovered over 10,000 of these tapes. With the help of Ostinato Records’ team, who digitised a large portion of these cassettes, Somali music, and culture, has received a long overdue spotlight.
The entire compilation is captivating, but Dur Dur Band and Sahra Dawo's 'Gorof (Elixir)' is a personal favourite. Filled with funky guitar riffs and spaced-out synths, Dawo's voice tip-toes across its hypnotic melodies... It feels like a sonic time capsule, teleporting you straight onto a hopping Mogadishu dance floor in the early eighties.

- Hello #LensFrens ! 💚
I've decided to introduce myself to all of you amazing people ! 🍺
My name is Kiril Alamurov, 29 years old from Bulgaria.
I have been very passionate about computers since my childhood, started from playing World of Warcraft but my techy nature decided to run a private WoW server and play with my friends and from this day everything started. 😀
I am working as a full-time System Administrator, using various tools to maintain server infrastructures.
2 years ago i dived deeper into the bockchain technology and to be honest it took my mind. Found @lensprotocol then joined the @phaver Discord server and the idea of decentralised social media seemed to me like the best use case of blockchain so i have started to be active and help the beautiful Phaver team with everything i can. 💜
6 months ago i have started to learn programming more deeply so as to be able to contribute to the new Web3.0 era with my future ideas (hope for them to come at some point). 😀
And that was it for now... i am glad to be here among so many smart builders! Hit the follow button if you liked my introduction. 💜
