Post by @stani • Hey
Would you use Ledger's recovery service?

- no, and I'm going to replace my ledger with a different setup now.
- No. I don’t use ledger and won’t. Yet I think the issue that they are trying to tackle - making the tech more accessible and less scary for mainstream users - is totally valid, but should not be solved by ledger but through better smart contracts. Eg #EIP4337
- How do we know Ledger hasn’t always been storing our seed phases ?
- Honestly blows my mind that yes has 85% here.
It's not self custody if you're trusting central entities with your keys, which is the whole point with getting a hardware wallet.
And the recovery mechanism depends on KYC and ID verification, in which case you're much better off holding your funds on a centralized exchange which will give you much better UX for same safety guarantees.
- No, will certainly not be using that. Should I switch to trezor?
Wild how high the yes vote is. I’d think early lens users would be a bit more apprehensive of things like this…but I do also understand that some (maybe most) people just don’t want to be bothered.
- Honestly I appreciate them taking steps towards better onboarding, storing private keys is a huge ux problem. Glad to see they are being held to a high standard of security (albeit I am still not sure if the fud is warranted ngl)
- can't believe Yes is that high. definitely makes sense for some people (it's an improvement over storing in a CEX), but 92% is crazy
- 85% yes is higher than I would have thought on this, interesting
- How do I do a poll, Ser ?
- The answer is hard no . In my honest opinion any closed source software should be sanctioned by crypto community on top of that you are in this ecosystem probably because you value your privacy the KYC is hard no specially if a freaking "hardware" wallet save your seed on cloud and ask for KYC to recover your seeds which is very opposite of crypto and self custody concept. i rather respect my self and use opensource hardware/software wallet.the airgap.it is a good sample which got my attention recently and good old trezor is another one both are opensource and both has reproducible binary from their source.
- just ordered a keystone
- I don't have a ledger,i am using safepal hardware wallet
- The result of vote is unbelievable man! Makes me think voters are bots without reading the question or they are people but they don't really know what they are dealing with, both are bad and sad but the second one is really disappointing and make me think crypto(true meaning) / DLT / DeFi never gonna get mass adoption.
- i think that the recovery service is good.
- I would not personally, but I can actually see the benefit for less tech-savvy people. Bashing Ledger for this optional feature is a bit too much I feel. No one is forced to use it.
- I always doubted ledger products after customer leaks, so never bought. Won Nano s last year but used only 1 time to check how it works and put it aside because it wasn't good for daily usage. Now they say that it was always possible to write a firmware that will extract private key from secure enclave (before they strictly denied it), so buried ledger forever..
- If you go for yes, don't buy a ledger !!!
- Ledger's looks to have made a bad decision
- I like Ledger
- I use Ledger and trezor and I prefer trezor!
- With this latest enforcement. I won't use it for free. I think I'm okay with safepal.
- i might be crazy, but i’ll still very much use it
- @mizu_eth.lens always vote yes
- nope. not safe anymore
- Nope, not ur key not ur coins.
- No just keep your seed yourself
- nope.. never in a lifetime. bad idea
- Looks like they forgot that all cryptocurrency is about privacy and anonymously
- Sadly, NO..
- It should be an option. Not mandatory.
- cool 🙂
- This feature let me nervious actually
- It depens on how much money I Have 😆
- Nope. I take the responsability of protecting the seed phrase to me.
- i think its good one
- Of course not
- that was quite a wrong way I think
- Huh, not at all the opinion I expected.
- I feel like "no" doesn't really capture the vibe. Would like an option of "...bruh." for myself personally
