Whats everyones take on Elon buying Twitter? Pros? Cons?
Comments
- It seems jack Dorsey has explained to Elon that Twitter should become an "open-sourced protocol" and that Twitter "cant have an advertising model." Advertising is currently the central business model of social media companies.
I hope he takes this advice into account and moves towards a model similar to .lens that lets creators take ownership of their content and be compensated for producing content that others want to mirror or collect. This has to be the future.
- Interesting takes here, seems that some folks see it as positive to what Twitter is today, making it better based on Elon's merits. Some folks consider that privatization will accelerate the idea of having decentralized social (Lens)
- Imo he will now have a power of 3 really powerful and influential industries in the US: cars, space travel and now social media
- I think it'll prove to be a good thing because he SEEMS to care more about making it a better platform than he cares about milking every dollar he can out of every user.
- Given the recorded conversations in which he talked about his ideas, I think he's approaching the problem from the other side: Integrate blockchain technology to solve the issues that Web2 social media faces.
If he can pull it off, it'd actually be a good thing, I think
- Twitter in it's current form is complete bottsville. I think it's a good thing. Elon is clearly nuts, but I believe overall, he is good and can make a difference.
- respectfully decline comment (:
- Can't be bad. Twitter's been hamstrung ever since they stopped aspiring to being a protocol, and that was a v v long time back now.
- Twitter is more likely to evolve quicker now (Elon cracking the whip, getting rid of bots, adding payments etc - super app, X.com come back)
Can be a massive time sink for Elon and have a negative impact on his other (more useful) ventures
- Elon fanbois might not like to hear this, but since this is you asked...
Elon will definitely not open-source Twitter and neither skip on advertising. He's in for profit with this venture, everything else would be a huge surprise. Twitter will most likely become more restrictive and users will have to worry even more for their privacy - just look at Elon's track record: Tesla is a privacy nightmare.
But with Elon Twitter will be a place where controversial views can be voiced, since Elon himself likes to display controversial views - in difference to Zucks platforms.
For Lens Protocol all the noice from Elon could be a good opportunity to quietly and organically grow as the real alternative to the distopian (probably becoming that) centralized social media platforms.
- Given Elons history, him buying twitter is mainly to shitpost and 'inside trade' in coins.
- With Twitter going private, they will likely experiment with more drastic changes. The problem will be making the company more profitable per user despite the company’s prior attempts in the past. It will be unlikely they will go public without better improvements in profitability.
- would like elon turn twiter to web3
- Indifferent.
I think this is a marketing move before he launches his social network on blockchain.
- Pros composable & audited data.
Cons fewer trolls to have fun with🥲
- He should buy #Lens instead of #Twitter
- Pros
- Definitely positive
Elon Musk is a very innovative person
- I dislike that much power being put in the hands of one individual, and he has a history of malicious tweeting. Don’t like it.
- if he buys hopefully will avoid bots
- Elon president !!
- Elon is Real Shiller
- Cons
- I think they will ship more and product will improve, the org will likely change significantly and become a lot leaner, will be good for customers
- Hopefully he can do more to get rid of the bots and scammers.
- Good or bad, accelerate the transformation of web2.
- + fewer bots already
- more censorship likely
- not good.he can easily manipulate it
- i believe the entire spam "investigation" was his way of setting the stage for coming in (was never truly committed to backing out of the deal) and implementing rudimentary anti-spam moderation tech/process without being viewed as the one responsible for the resulting reduction in DAU/MAU/TotU. his ambition to turn it into an "everything" platform will be difficult given the head start by others in market and US regulators being generally weary of such executions already.
- Hoping for less bots and extreme left mobs
- Real bad. This guy needs some people around himself that tell him No from time to time.
- Not optimistic, there will be a monopoly
- Pro: Hopefully enabling the edit button
- really?
- Pro tip for #crypto conference organisers. If you are planning to invite senior government officials, maybe "death to fiat" or similar messages at some of the booths etc are not ideal displays for promoting the industry
- Think it might be a great incentive to go build on Lens faster 😁
- @guoyi1yi.lens
- Supposedly they gonna decentralize it 👀that would be insane
- I am hopeful that he will make the algorithm open to everyone and make the platform better.
- Might be good, might be bad, but at least we know it will be interesting.
- Might be good, might be bad, but at least we know it will be interesting.
- He has a history of promising grand ideas that never happen, so I expect very little to change, as I find it hard to believe anything he says.
- cynical.

- Gisele has decided to gib Brady back to the community 🥺
- okie bro
- Not what we need!
- different face, same shit
- C
- He probably did not want them to dig out some dead bodies, which is why he had to continue. Sucks to be held responsible for once, doesn't it
