The other day I made a post about the importance of sleep and the necessary amount according to age, I'll leave the link below.

What I failed to emphasize is that those data refer to continuous sleep during the night. It is important to understand that it is not the same to sleep 8 hours in a row at night than to do it only for 6 hours and then "complete it" with a 2-hour nap.
**Does that mean that the napping is not useful?**
Not at all! It is even normal that around 7 to 8 hours after waking up we feel a decrease in the state of alertness, which usually coincides with the post-prandial stage (after eating).
In this situation, a nap can help, but taking certain precautions:
1.- Napping is not essential, you can go through the whole day without it if your body tolerates it well.
2.- Ideally, the nap should be short (10-30 min).
3.- Try not to exceed 60-90 min of nap as it offers no benefit.
4.- Keep the nap as far away as possible from your nighttime rest.
5.- Try to shorten or avoid naps if you notice difficulties falling asleep at night.
6.- You can, as an alternative, practice NSDR (non-sleeping deep rest) or Yoga Nidra, which has been shown to have all the benefits of rest without the need to fall asleep. I leave you the link to a 10-minute guided NSDR video:

Some people even take advantage of the time it takes for caffeine to be absorbed to take a quick nap after a coffee, a practice known as "nappuccino" (nap + cappuccino). Although that coffee is not necessary, in case you practice it, remember to drink it relatively quickly and try to sleep immediately after consuming it to prevent caffeine from taking effect before falling asleep.
I hope this information helps you when choosing the most appropriate way to rest according to your schedule and habits. Remember that sleep is a fundamental part of our health.
