what's the deal with Fuel? How does a modular execution layer fit in with broader ecosystem? is it a replacement? can it serve or' bridge' multiple consens

also as someone who rarely writes smcs it would be really reassuring to have checks on security at compile time!
okay, answer seems to be all of the above. modularity of x layer is very interesting as there are applications such as state channels that seem ideal for business2business. it also seems you could connect to multiple consensus layers and form a bridge that way.
